The practice of Medicine
is an Art based in Science
~ Sir William Osler
What is an internal medicine doctor?
After medical school an internal medicine doctor or Internist spends three years in residency focusing on the adult patient, training with all the subspecialties of internal medicine such as cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, rheumatology and more. Months are spent in out-patient clinics, general hospital wards, and the coronary and intensive care units.
Internists are often consulted to care for the medical problems of patients admitted for surgery or psychiatric care
